Book of Beasts: Lubay-Lubyok Mahanginun si Mahuyokhuyokan

Lubay-Lubyok Mahanginun si Mahuyokhuyokan is a Visayan Goddess of the Night Breeze from Philippine folklore.

Lubay-Lubyok Mahanginun si Mahuyokhuyokan is a beautiful maiden with deep brown skin and long dark, windswept hair, dressed in the finest silks made of clouds, stars, and the night sky. She is elusive, hiding behind the sunset, escaping the sights of all those who try to reach for her.

Lubay-Lubyok Mahanginun si Mahuyokhuyokan is a Visayan Goddess of the Night Breeze from Philippine folklore.

Devastating Beauty

Lubay-Lubyok is a gorgeous goddess, born of Maklium sa T’wan, the oldest god of the plains and animals. Lubay-Lubyok is the youngest of three sisters. Despite her captivating looks, she does not like to be seen by many. Many an adventurer has tried to look for her because of the boons that she grants mortals who impress her and do favors for her.

Bringer of A Calming Breeze

When Lubay-Lubyok sings, she summons a gentle wind that calms the emotions of everyone around her. Her presence radiates with purity that cleanses the surrounding area and drives away any evil creatures and wards against them.

A Precious Princess

Lubay-Lubyok bears the title of “binukot” which means hidden princess. She is to be kept unsullied, such that her feet must never touch the ground. As such, she often floats around by her power over wind wherever she goes.

Boons of Incredible Wonder

Lubay-Lubyok can sometimes grant some boons to mortals that grant her favors. She peeks into the heart of the adventurer to see if they are worthy of the boon and what would suit them best. However, if she finds that there is darkness in your heart, she will turn you away.

Temperamental Wind

Despite often being seen as a soft, tender soul, Lubay-Lubyok’s mood can become volatile. If she detects any signs of ungratefulness or if she sees that she is being used as a means to an end that she does not approve of, she is capable of showing her more tempestuous nature, weaving the breezes into gale force winds that will blow anyone out of her pocket dimension.

Face-mover, Face-stealer

The greatest trespass that one can do against Lubay-Lubyok is to misuse any power and kindness that she grants to you. Once you have angered this goddess, beware, for she can and will steal your face. One of the most famous legends associated with her is how she moved the faces of a fruit that she created because they were being insufferable. In her anger, she will not hesitate to move your face to another part of your body as a curse.

Lubay-Lubyok can curse a living creature within 90 feet, disfiguring or relocating its face. A successful save renders the target immune to this ability for 24 hours.

Lubay-Lubyok’s Lair: Burutlakan-sing Adlaw

Lubay-Lubyok lives in a pocket plane of existence called Burutlakan-sing-adlaw where she presides over a beautiful forest that hosts fantastic flora and fauna of her own creation. The name of her pocket plane literally translates to “Where The Sun Rises” and is an idyllic paradise, always perfectly sunny with bursts of rainfall when needed. This is where she created the cashew fruit and cursed them when they reared their ungratefulness towards her. There is said to be some of them who remained sentient and retained their capability to speak. Finding one is the easiest way to find Lubay-Lubyok who remains elusive, even in her own domain.

Lair Actions

On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), Lubay-Lubyok takes a lair action to cause one of the following effects; Lubay-Lubyok can’t use the same effect two rounds in a row:

  • Lubay-Lubyok sings an ethereal song, causing a calming breeze to fill the area within 120 feet of her. Everyone within the area must make a DC 18 Charisma saving throw. Those that fail become indifferent toward any creature that they had been hostile toward. This indifference ends if the target is attacked or harmed by a spell or if it witnesses any of its friends being harmed. This effect lasts until initiative count 20 on the following round.
  • When angered, Lubay-Lubyok can conjure gale force winds that whip across her domain. Each creature within 120 feet of Lubay-Lubyok must make a DC 18 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone. The winds continue until initiative count 20 on the following round, rendering the whole area difficult terrain.

Lubay-Lubyok has three floating cashew fruits that accompany her, bearing the faces of those that have angered her. These poor souls despise any who garner Lubay-Lubyok’s attention and aim their ire at those who offend her. Each of the floating cashew fruit heads casts vicious mockery on one creature (spell save DC 13, 2d4 psychic damage).
